Traffic Division Investigates Fatal Motorcylce Collision
May 10, 2006 00:00
On May 9, 2006, at approximately 9:01 p.m., Portland Police officers responded to the scene of a fatal collision involving a motorcycle and an SUV at the intersection of Southeast Division Street and Southeast 125th Avenue. Officers discovered the driver of the motorcycle, 33-year-old Scott A. Jones unconscious and unresponsive at the scene. Jones died while en route to the hospital. Portland Police Bureau Traffic Investigators determined Jones was traveling eastbound on Southeast Division Street while racing another motorcycle driver. As Jones approached Southeast 125th Avenue, he collided with an SUV that had pulled into his path. Jones struck the side of the SUV, as the person he was racing continued eastbound on Southeast Division Street. The driver of the SUV was uninjured.
Investigators have determined Jones’ excessive speed was a factor in the collision. No charges have been made as the case is still under investigation. Investigators would like to speak with the individual Jones was racing at the time of his collision. The second motorcycle was described a Harley-Davidson with extended handlebars and blue, ground-effect lights.
Anyone with information is asked to call Officer Barry Busse at (503) 823-2103.
This investigation is ongoing.
