During the next two weeks, the Portland Police Bureau’s five police precincts and its Traffic Division will conduct traffic enforcement missions in and around school zones. The purpose of these missions is to increase traffic safety awareness and remind drivers that the safety of children is everyone’s concern. During these missions, Portland Police Bureau officers will be strictly and aggressively enforcing the traffic code. Community members should also be reminded that traffic citations automatically double in school zones. In addition to traffic safety enforcement missions, several precincts will be conducting evening curfew missions during the next two weeks. The curfew hours are as follows: children younger than 14 and not in high school, curfew is 9:15 p.m.- 6:00 a.m. on weekdays and 10:15 p.m.-6:00 a.m. on weekends; 14 years or older, curfew is from 10:15 p.m.-6:00 a.m. weekdays and 12:00 a.m.-6:00 a.m. on weekends.
These missions will have the support of the Gang Enforcement Team, School Police, and School Resource Officers.
If you wish to interview officers or participate in a ridealong with officers conducting these missions, please contact Sergeant Brian Schmautz or the Portland Police Bureau Office of Public Information.
