On Saturday, July 15, 2006, the Portland Police Bureau Traffic Division will begin a series of enforcement missions designed to increase motorist safety on the highway system in the Portland Metropolitan Area. Through a grant from the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), traffic officers will conduct saturation patrols citing motorists who are speeding, following to close, unlawfully changing lanes, or driving aggressively.
The first mission will occur on Highway 26 in the area of the Zoo. By publicizing these missions the Traffic Division hopes that motorists will modify their driving habits without the need for enforcement.
These missions will continue throughout the remainder of the summer at various locations.
