Crime Stoppers for week of 11-06-06

November 16, 2006 00:00

The Portland Police Cold Case Unit, in cooperation with Crime Stoppers, is asking for your help in solving a double homicide.

Twenty-three years ago on June 5, 1983, the bodies of 46-year- old Harold Penland, aka Willie Nelson and his wife, 27-year -old Laura Penland, were found in their home located at 6025 North Vancouver Avenue. The Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be by multiple gunshot wounds.

Investigators identified several “persons of interest” in the initial investigations; however, no arrests were made due to the lack of evidence. The Cold Case Unit began to investigate this case several months ago and believe that there are persons in the community with information who are hesitant to talk with police

Crime Stoppers has approved an enhanced reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to an arrest in this case. Call Crime Stoppers at (503) 823-HELP (4357).
