On Sunday, January 7, 2007, at 4:17 pm, Northeast Precinct officers on routine patrol found 14-year-old Davonte Garland Lightfoot collapsed on the sidewalk near the intersection of North Albina Avenue and North Killingsworth Street. He appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound. Paramedics were called to the scene and transported Lightfoot to Emanuel Hospital, where he died while receiving medical treatment. Homicide Detectives were called to the scene to initiate an investigation.
An autopsy performed today by the Oregon State Medical Examiner concluded that the victim died of a gunshot wound to the head. Witnesses describe the suspect as a black male in his late teens to early twenties, 5’5”-5’9” tall with a thin build. He was wearing a gray three-quarter-length coat. Investigators believe there are additional witnesses who did not remain at the scene, but may have observed the shooting or saw the suspect and victim walking near each other prior to the shooting.
Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Jon Rhodes at (503) 823-0459 or Detective Lynn Courtney at (503) 823-0451.
This investigation is continuing.
