Suspect Arrested in Child Abuse Investigation

February 02, 2007 00:00

On January 30, 2007, Detectives from the Family Services Division Child Abuse Team (CAT) arrested 36-year-old Kendall Greenawalt Jr. on one count of Sex Abuse in the First Degree, two counts of Unlawful Sexual Penetration in the First Degree, one count of Sodomy in the First Degree, one count of Sex Abuse in the Third Degree, one count of Sexual Penetration in the Second Degree, and one count of Using a Child in a Display of Sexually Explicit Conduct. The investigation began in October 2006, when CAT received information that the suspect may have abused a child.

CAT detectives completed the investigation and forwarded it to the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office. A Grand Jury recently returned an indictment. At this time, investigators have only identified one victim. However, investigators have learned that Greenawalt has driven a school bus for the Portland Public School system for the past five years. None of the criminal conduct occurred while the suspect was working as a bus driver and the victim does not attend Portland Public School. Investigators also have no information leading them to believe the suspect sexually abused a school student that rides his bus. But because of the nature of the charges and the fact that Greenawalt has had frequent contact with children, investigators are releasing the information in an effort to confirm that there are no additional victims.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Mike Perry at (503) 823-0189.

This investigation is continuing.
