Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the robbery of a local automotive business. On Saturday, January 27, 2007 at around 5:30 p.m., three men entered Portland Automotive, located at Northeast 80th and Sandy. The suspects assaulted the employees and tied them up with a phone cord. One of the employees was able to free himself and chased the robbers with a gun; the suspects and the employee exchanged gunfire as the suspects fled. The suspects stole a car from the automotive shop, but abandoned it just a few blocks away.
The subsequent investigation by Robbery Detectives culminated in a warrant being executed by the Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) on February 7, 2007, at the 8500 Block of Northeast Fremont. That warrant led to additional warrants being served and three suspects arrested. The first suspect is 24-year-old Thuyen Nguyen, who was charged with Attempted Murder with a Firearm, two count of Robbery in the First Degree with a Firearm, two counts of Kidnapping in the First Degree with a Firearm, two counts of Robbery in the Second Degree with a Firearm, Assault in the Second Degree with a Firearm, Unlawful Use of a Firearm and a Felon in Possession of a Firearm. The second suspect, 20-year-old John Thi Nguyen, was charged with all of the above, with the exception of Attempted Murder. The third suspect, 24-year-old Vina Bui, who faces the same charges at Thuyen Nguyen, with the exception of Attempted Murder. Bui is also charged with Hindering Prosecution.
