On Saturday, February 10, 2007, at 3:07 am, North Precinct Officers discovered the body of 49-year-old James Kenneth Miller in the area of North Midway Avenue and North Columbia Boulevard. An autopsy determined that Miller died of a gunshot wound to the chest. During the investigation, Portland Police Homicide Detectives arrested 28-year-old Leon James Scott.
A Multnomah County Grand Jury has now indicted Scott on one count of Murder with a Firearm, one count of Unlawful Manufacture of Marijuana, one count of Unlawful Delivery of Cocaine, one count of Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine. Unlawful Possession of Cocaine, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, and one count of Dog Fighting.
On the day of the murder, detectives executed a warrant at the suspect's residence. In addition to evidence of the murder, investigators also seized six Pit Bulls they believe were used in dog fights, as well as evidence of dog fighting, and narcotics trafficking. Detectives are looking for anyone who has knowledge of the suspect’s dog fighting or narcotics activity.
