On Sunday, March 4, 2007, at 3:48 pm, Southeast Precinct officers responded to a shooting at the Belmont Market, located in the 3400 block of Southeast Belmont Street. Upon arrival, officers located the victim, 41-year-old Chester Yeom who appeared to have been shot at least once. The victim was transported to OHSU and is in critical condition. Because of the severe nature of the victim's injuries, Homicide Detectives were called to the scene to initiate an investigation.
After speaking with witnesses, detectives believe the suspect entered the store and shot the clerk during an apparent robbery. The suspect is described as a clean shaven, 25-35-year-old Hispanic or Asian male, 5'8"-5'9" tall with a stocky build weighing approximately 170-200 pounds. He was wearing a black hooded coat, faded jeans, a dark pullover shirt, white tennis shoes, and dark glasses. Detectives believe the suspect fled the area in a burnt orange-colored 2002-2003 Chevrolet Corvette with a black soft top, five spoke mag wheels and lightly tinted windows.
Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information, reported to Crime Stoppers, that leads to an arrest in this case, or any unsolved felony. Call Crime Stoppers at (503) 823-HELP (4357).
