On Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at 2:45 am, North Precinct officers responded to a report of an armed robbery in the 2000 block of North Killingsworth Street. As the first officer arrived in the area he saw a person, who matched the description of the suspect in the armed robbery and was later identified as 23-year-old Roshi William Saunders, riding a bike near the intersection of North Interstate Avenue and North Emerson Street. Immediately after seeing the officer, Saunders jumped off his bike and ran northbound from North Emerson Street into a residential area. Because the robbery suspect was reported to be armed with a handgun, officers took positions around the area to prevent the suspect escape and then activated SERT.
At 4:43 am, SERT officers found Saunders hiding at the base of a stairway leading to the basement door of a nearby residence. A loaded handgun was found buried in some nearby dirt. Robbery Detectives were notified and arrived to take responsibility for the investigation.
Saunders was identified as a suspect in the robbery and was booked into the Justice Center Jail on one count of Robbery in the First Degree and one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Detectives will continue the investigation to determine if Saunders may be involved in any other robberies. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Cordes Towle at (503) 823-0464 or Detective Joe Luiz at (503) 823-0400.
This investigation is continuing.
