Earlier that afternoon, Cantrell had been at the H20 Martini Bar, in downtown Portland, and told a bartender he might return later that evening. Cantrell had recently moved to Portland from Eugene, and had been working at the Delta Park Shari’s. He knew few people in the Portland area, and had been unsuccessful in looking for friends to go out with him the night of February 11. Cantrell was not seen or heard from after that time, and missed a dinner date with his girlfriend on February 12, which was described as very unusual for him.
On March 21, 2006, Cantrell’s body was discovered in the Willamette River, in an industrial area of Northwest Portland. Detectives consider the death“suspicious,” and do not believe Cantrell’s death was a suicide.
Cantrell was described as a white male, 5’8” feet tall and 175 pounds. He had short brown hair and blue eyes. He often wore a Cincinnati Reds baseball cap. Anyone with information regarding Cantrell’s death is asked to call Crime Stoppers.
