On Thursday, May 3, 2007, at 3:30 am, a Northeast Precinct officer was flagged down on a traffic problem near the intersection of Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Northeast Holman Street. The officer observed that a vehicle occupied by two men had crashed into a wall near the intersection. The officer walked up to the vehicle and attempted to contact the unconscious driver, later identified as 30-year-old Raymundo Hernandez-Barboza. The officer immediately discerned that the driver had injuries inconsistent with a traffic collision. The driver was transported to Emanuel Hospital where he died while receiving medical attention. Homicide Detectives were called to the scene to conduct an investigation.
An autopsy performed by the Multnomah County Medical Examiner revealed that Hernandez-Barboza died of multiple stab wounds to the chest. During the continuing investigation, detectives identified a potential witness who may have information vital to the investigation. The witness is described as a male Hispanic in his late twenties, 5’5” tall with a thin build and a pock-marked face. The witness uses the street name of “Remi” or “Remy” and has a tattoo of and Indian head on his right arm, a tattoo of a tear drop on one of his eyes, and a tattoo of flames on one of his wrists.
Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Bryan Steed at (503) 823-0395 or Detective Mark Slater at (503) 823-9319. Spanish speakers are asked to call Detective Jim Lawrence at (503) 823-0867.
