On Friday, November 16, 2001, Portland Police Bureau Robbery Detectives arrested 33-year-old Danny Phillip Flack for Robbery in the First Degree, Kidnap in the First Degree, and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. During the subsequent investigation detectives developed Probable Cause to believe that Flack was involved in the murder of Patterson.
On Monday, November 19, 2001, Flack was charged with Aggravated Murder, Two counts of Burglary in the First Degree, and an additional count of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.
Homicide Detectives now believe that Patterson died during the commission of a robbery. The suspect then stole the victim’s vehicle and returned to commit the burglary. Detectives are now searching for additional evidence of the murder that they believe may have been placed in a bag or backpack and then thrown into a nearby field or yard.
Because Homicide Detectives are continuing their investigation, Flack’s photograph will not be available until the morning of November 21, 2001.
Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Sergeant Cheryl Kanzler at (503) 823-0865.
This investigation is continuing.
