On Wednesday, May 30, 2007, at 5:36 am, East Precinct officers found the body of 36-year-old Michael Kellerman after responding to a reported shooting near the intersection of Southeast 104th Avenue and Southeast Boise Street. From witnesses, officers learned a woman shot the victim at least once and fled the area. Homicide Detectives were called to the scene to initiate an investigation.
Through continuing investigation, officers identified 30-year-old Jacqueline Kay Fielder as a suspect in the shooting. Officers contacted Fielder through her cell phone in an attempt to convince her to surrender. Over the next two hours, negotiators had periodic contact with Fielder, but were unable to locate her.
At approximately 7:40 am, an alert Oregon State Police Trooper saw Fielder on Highway 97 in Eastern Oregon. In a coordinated effort, several area jurisdictions attempted to stop the suspect who eventually entered the City of Redmond. Once in the city, the suspect abandoned her car and eventually shot herself. Fielder was transported to a hospital in Bend, Oregon, and is in very critical condition with a life-threatening gunshot wound to the head. For additional details on Fielder’s actions in the City of Redmond, please contact Redmond Police Chief Ron Roberts at (541) 948-7905.
