MONEY DONATED FOR NEW POLICE DOG

On Friday, October 5, 2001, at 10:00 a.m., the Portland Police Bureau K-9 unit will receive a $5,000 donation from Milk-Bone and Albertson’s. The money will be used to purchase a new police dog. This donation is part of an on-going effort by Milk-Bone and Albertson’s to support law enforcement throughout the country. The donation will be received at the Albertson’s store located at 4140 SE 82nd Avenue, by Assistant Chief Mark Paresi.

As part of the preparation for this donation, Lent Elementary School in Southeast Portland is holding a contest to name the new police dog. The winner of the contest will be announced during the presentation of the donation. The contest winner, and their classmates, will be on hand at the event.

Milk-Bone’s nationwide police dog donation program allows law enforcement agencies to add or maintain canine units at no cost to tax-paying citizens. Albertson’s is generously participating in eleven additional programs across to US.

The Portland Police Bureau K-9 Unit responds to thousands of calls for service each year. So far this year, Portland Police dogs have captured 185 suspects as well as recovering property and evidence including guns. The new police dog will make the Portland Police Bureau’s K-9 unit more responsive to the needs of the community.
