The Portland Police Bureau is seeking citizens interested in attending the 2007 Citizen Police Academy scheduled to begin on October 2, 2007. Past graduates of the academy speak highly of the instructors and classes. Participants will also attend classes to learn more about policies and procedures, the internal affairs process, criminal investigations, drug/vice investigations and criminal law. Other classes include presentations from specialty units such as the Special Emergency Reaction Team and the Explosive Disposal Unit.
Interested participants should have a history of community involvement and either work or live in the City of Portland. Eligible participants must also complete and pass a criminal background check. The Academy will begin October 2, 2007 and conclude December 4, 2007. The academy includes nine weekday classes (Tuesday evenings) and two weekend classes (Saturday) for a total of 35 hours.
