On Monday, April 7, 2008, at 10:42 pm, Central Precinct officers discovered the bodies of 24-year-old Juan Andres Flores and 36-year-old Maen Issa Lutfi after responded to a welfare check in the 8900 block of Southwest 30th Avenue. From evidence at the scene, officers believed that Flores may have been the victim of a homicide and Lutfi may have committed suicide. Homicide Detectives were called to the scene to initiate an investigation.
On Tuesday, April 8, 2008, the Medical Examiner conducted autopsies and determined that Juan Flores died of multiple stab wounds and Maen Lutfi died of strangulation. Based on evidence at the scene, investigators believe that Lutfi stabbed Flores and then committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling.
Based on statements by witnesses and prior police contact, investigators have determined that the suspect and victim have had ongoing domestic violence issues. There are no other suspects in this continuing investigation.
