On Monday October 20, 2008, at about 12:30 pm, a teenage female was sexually assaulted as she walked through Lents Park located in the area of Southeast 92nd Avenue and Southeast Holgate Street. After the assault, the victim went to her home where she contacted East Precinct officers to report the crime. Detectives from the Sex Crimes Unit were called to assist in the investigation.
Based on information from the interview, detectives believe the victim was walking through the park and saw the suspect crouched against a tree. The victim approached the suspect to ask him a question. As she walked towards the suspect he stood up. As the suspect stood up, the victim observed that the suspect’s pants were partially open and his penis was exposed. Before the victim could escape, the suspect grabbed and sexually assaulted her. The victim physically resisted the suspect who walked out of the area after completing the assault.
The victim described the suspect as a 5’8” tall, darker skinned white male with an average build. The victim estimated the suspect to be approximately 25-35 years of age, with dirty dark colored hair. He was wearing a black hoodie, dirty frayed jeans, and white and blue tennis shoes. The suspect smelled of urine and tobacco. The victim stated that the suspect spoke with foreign accent that was not known to the victim. However, the victim stated that the accent was not Spanish. The victim observed that the suspect was not carrying any bags, but by appearance may look like a transient.
Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Mary Wheat at (503) 823-0885. This investigation is continuing.
