Sergeant Justus was hired as a Police Officer on July 3, 1986 and was promoted to Detective/Sergeant on August 11, 1994. His peers say that Sergeant Justus distinguishes himself through his positive, energetic guidance of the Neighborhood Response Team and his investigative staff. He fosters open communication between the street officers and his investigators. He encourages tenacious follow up investigations and self-motivated officers. Sergeant Justus has personally made over 1,000 arrests and has received more than 20 letters of commendation during his career with the Portland Police Bureau.
In 2001, Sergeant Justus received the Police Medal for single-handedly capturing two armed robbers fleeing from the scene of the tavern. Sergeant Justus is a highly involved father and husband. He coaches his daughter's softball team and closely follows his son's wrestling matches.
