Update on SERT Callout 126th and Hassalo St.

August 11, 2009 00:00

Today at approximately 7:40 a.m., Portland Police Officers from East Precinct attempted to make contact with two subjects who were in a vehicle in the area of Northeast 122nd and Holladay Street. The subjects fled in a vehicle eastbound on Halsey Street and the police officers pursued them. The subjects then ran from the vehicle in the area of Northeast 126th and Hassalo. Officers set up a large perimeter from Northeast Halsey to Glisan, 122nd to 131st Avenue.

The Special Emergency Response Team, (SERT), was activated because officers believed at least one of the subjects in the vehicle was armed with a handgun and might be responsible for a robbery that had occurred.

The SERT Team began searching the area for the subjects and at approximately 11:00 a.m., SERT officers took a 34-year-old man into custody. This man was found in the backyard of a residence in the area of 126th and Hassalo Street.

The second possible suspect was not located during the search. Portland Police Robbery Detectives are investigating this incident. Detectives will be interviewing the suspect and will execute a search warrant on the vehicle that the subjects ran from.
