In the early morning hours of Saturday, September 29, 2001, the body of 23-year-old Shannon Bren Mahaffy was found in the Willamette River near the Ross Island Bridge. Shannon Mahaffy was a resident of Southeast Portland. Shannon Mahaffy was last seen at approximately 12:30 a.m. near the intersection of SE Powell Blvd. and 14th Avenue. She was wearing a black t-shirt, black denim pants, and black boots. Shannon Mahaffy was described as a white female, 5’8”, 130 pounds, with dark black hair.

The Multnomah County Medical Examiner has determined that the cause of death was drowning.

Portland Police Bureau Detectives are looking for any person who may have seen or talked with Shannon Mahaffy in the area of the Ross Island Bridge in the early morning hours of September 29, 2001.
