DOMESTIC VIOLENCE UNIT RECEIVES GIFTS FOR FAMILIES

December 18, 2001 00:00

On Wednesday, December 19, 2001, at 10:00 am, the Portland Police Bureau’s Domestic Violence Reduction Unit (DVRU) will receive Christmas gifts for fifty-five people representing seventeen different families who are rebuilding their lives after leaving domestic violence situations. Many women who leave domestic violence situations also leave behind the comfort of financial security, which often means an inability to provide their children some joy during the holiday season.

The gifts are being donated by the Portland Habilitation Center (PHC). PHC is a non-profit organization that trains and employs adults with disabilities.

DVRU is part of the Portland Police Bureau Family Services Division located at 2115 SE Morrison Street. On average, DVRU receives more than 800 complaints of domestic violence every month. Individuals seeking help can call DVRU at (503) 823-0992.
