On February 15, 2002, David Ernest Gildersleeve was sentenced to 30 years in prison after being found guilty of Aggravated Attempt Murder of a Police Officer, Robbery in the First Degree, Ex-con in Possession of a Firearm, and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. Gildersleeve was sentenced as a Dangerous Offender.

On February 22, 2001, Officer Robert Pippen saw Gildersleeve operating a stolen vehicle. Gildersleeve, who had committed an armed robbery, attempted to flee in the stolen vehicle. During the pursuit, Gildersleeve caused an accident on SW Oleson Road. Gildersleeve attempted to run from the accident on foot and Officer Pippen gave chase. When Gildersleeve pointed a loaded and cocked 40 caliber semi-automatic pistol at Officer Pippen, Officer Pippen shot him.

A photograph of Gildersleeve is available by calling the Portland Police Bureau Identification Division at (503) 823-0382.
