CAT BURGLAR(S) TARGET NORTH PORTLAND NEIGHBORHOOD

Since August 27, 2001, 29 homes in a section of North Portland have been burglarized by one or more suspected “cat burglars”. Most of the burglaries occurred between midnight and 5:00 a.m. The point of entry has frequently been an open door or window. The suspect has been described as black male, 5’8” or shorter, with a slight build and short hair or a shaved head. Most of the burglaries have occurred in the area between N. Lombard to N. Willis and N. Woolsey Ave. to N. Haven Ave.

The suspect frequently takes only small, easy to conceal items such as wallets and purses.

On October 17, 2001, 3 juveniles were arrested at Roosevelt High School after they attempted to sell items taken in a burglary that occurred near the same area as the previously reported “cat burglaries”. In addition to the stolen property, one of the juveniles was in possession of Crack Cocaine.

North Precinct Property Crime Detectives believe that several young males may be working together and be responsible for these burglaries. Detectives advise area residents to lock doors and windows before going to bed. They also suggest you screen young adults you let stay in your home. You are also encouraged to call 9-1-1, when you see suspicious activity.
