POLICE INVESTIGATE DOUBLE SHOOTING IN OLD TOWN

April 19, 2002 00:00

On April 19, 2002, at 4:40 a.m. Central Precinct Uniform Officers responded to a report of a shooting on Northwest Couch Street between 6th Avenue and Broadway. Upon arrival, officers contacted 21-year-old Ramon Taylor, who had a gunshot wound in his leg. Police also learned that 3 individuals had taken a second shooting victim, later identified as 21-year-old Garvin Alvin Franklin Jr., from the scene and dropped him off at Emanuel Hospital. Franklin, who had been shot in the back, required surgery.

During contact with the victims and witnesses, Detectives received limited information. The suspect has been described as a “skinny” black male in his early 20’s, with a light complexion, with a short afro, and dark clothing. Detectives believe that the victims and suspect may be aquatinted. The shooting may have been drug related.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Mark Georgioff at (503) 823- 0451.

This investigation is continuing.
