Assistant Chief Mark Paresi, a 28-year veteran of the Portland Police Bureau, announced today he will be Chief of the North Las Vegas, Nevada Police Department.

Assistant Chief Paresi, who oversees the Operations Support Branch, has been an assistant chief for 3 years. His responsibilities have included providing leadership to commanders and managers of the Tactical Operations Division, Tri-Met Police, School Police, Identification Division, Property/Evidence Division, Youth Crime Prevention Division and the Sunshine Division. Assistant Chief Paresi also has been the Police Bureau’s liaison to the Sexual Minorities Roundtable (SMRT) and the Asian Law Enforcement Advisory Council (ALEACO).

Prior to his tenure as assistant chief, Mark Paresi was Commander of East Precinct, the Tactical Operations Division and the Community Policing/Planning and Support Division. He also served in the Patrol Support Division, Internal Investigations Division, Detective Division and as an uniformed officer assigned to various precincts.

“Assistant Chief Mark Paresi is a remarkable leader with a commitment to training, including helping form and train the Rapid Response Team, working with youth through the Youth Crime Prevention Division, and forming partnerships with the sexual minorities community” says Chief Mark Kroeker. “Though this is a great loss to the Portland Police Bureau, I’m confident he built a solid foundation for others to follow.”

Chief Paresi will join the North Las Vegas Nevada Police Department June 1, 2002.
