TWO MEN ARRESTED WHILE MAKING BOMBS

May 10, 2002 00:00

On May 10, 2002, at 10:10 a.m., Central Precinct uniform officers arrested 20-year-old Justin Trujillo and 18-year-old Michael Meyeriecks on one count each of Manufacturing an Explosive Device and one count of Possession of an Explosive Device. Officers had been dispatched to the area of Southwest Park Avenue and Southwest Madison Street after a citizen reported seeing two males making what appeared to be a “bomb”. When the officers contacted Trujillo and Meyeriecks they saw partially constructed, and essential components for, tennis ball bombs.

Trujillo and Meyeriecks, who have no known address, were lodged in the Justice Center Jail. Investigators have not determined the intended use for the bombs.

Photographs of Trujillo and Meyeriecks are available, via e-mail, by contacting the Portland Police Bureau Identification Division at (503) 823-0382.

This investigation is continuing.
