POLICE IDENTIFY MAN SHOT IN OLD TOWN

On December 26, 2001, at approximately 7:03 a.m., Portland Police responded to a reported shooting that had just occurred at the intersection of NW 5th Avenue and NW Davis Street. Officers arrived and learned that the victim had been shot once in the abdomen. The suspect, described as a black male with a thin build and dark clothing, fled the scene. The victim was transported to OHSU.

The victim has now been identified as 21-year-old Asmar Jabalini Rutley. Rutley was in possession of what appears to be crack cocaine when he was shot. Rutley has had numerous prior contacts with the police. The suspect in this investigation has not been identified.

Police are asking anyone with information to call the Portland Police Bureau Detective Division at (503) 823-0400. This investigation is continuing.
