DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CALL LEADS TO SERT ACTIVATION / ARREST

On April 24, 2002, at approximately 10:15 p.m., a 29-year-old female walked into Central Precinct to report an incident of domestic violence had just occurred in her apartment at 111 SW Harrison Street. The female told officers that husband, later identified as 31-year-old William Woodworth, had forced her from their apartment and then barricaded himself inside with their 2-year-old child. Believing there was potential danger for the child, officers activated the Special Emergency Reaction Team and the Hostage Negotiation Team.

Officers spent the next two hours evaluating the threat to the child. Eventually, with the help of mental health councilors, Commanders reached the conclusion there was no imminent threat to the child. Officers cleared the scene but returned several hours later and arrested Woodworth without incident. Woodworth was booked into the Justice Center Jail on one count of Menacing.
