POLICE INVESTIGATE NEAR FATAL ACCIDENT

On February 1, 2002, at 10:04 a.m., Portland Police Officers responded to a possible fatal accident on I-5 Southbound near Capitol Highway. At the scene of the accident, police learned that, 39-year-old Therresa Skoch had parked her vehicle on the shoulder of the freeway and was hit by a semi truck carrying a load of lumber.

From witnesses, investigators learned that Skoch appeared to walk directly into the path of the truck. Skoch landed over 100 feet from the point of impact. Investigators found a note written by Skoch at the scene.

Skoch survived the accident and was transported to OHSU.
