On June 6, 2002, a Multnomah County Grand Jury returned a 31count indictment against 33-year-old Ladon Andre Stephens in connection with the homicide of Melissa Bittler and the sexual assault of 4 other victims. Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney Rod Underhill called 25 witnesses before the Grand Jury. The charges include:
9 counts of Aggravated Murder 6 counts of Attempted Aggravated Murder 3 counts of Sodomy in the First Degree 6 counts of Rape in the First Degree 1 count of Kidnap in the First Degree 2 counts of Unlawful Sexual Penetration in the First Degree 3 counts of Burglary in the First Degree 1 count of Assault in the Fourth Degree
The investigative team, assembled in the months prior to Stephen’s arrest, is still following up on leads.
