Police seek witnesses after sexal assault

POLICE SEEK WITNESSES AFTER 12-YEAR-OLD SEXUALLY ASSAULTED IN PARK

On July 22, 2002, Child Abuse Team Detectives arrested 25-year-old Abdirahman A. Said on one count of Rape in the First Degree, one count of Sex Abuse in the First Degree, and one count of Kidnap in the First Degree in connection with the sexual assault of a 12-year-old Northeast Portland female. The investigation began at 4:00 a.m., on July 22, 2002, when officers responded to a 9-1-1 call of a fight in Rose City Park, which is near Northeast Tillamook Street and 62nd Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found the 12-year-old victim who told the officers that the she had been attacked and sexually assaulted. A short time later, officers found and arrested Said.

Detectives believe there were as many as 10 males in the park as the time of the assault. Child Abuse Team Lead Detective Lee Gosson is attempting to identify anyone else that may have witnessed the crime. Anyone with information is asked to the Portland Police Bureau Information and Referral line at (503) 823-4636.

Update: The Multnonah County District Attorney's Office has dismissed the charges against Said.
