Detectives investigate possible homicide near Riverfront

On August 30, 2002, at 8:58 a.m., Portland Police were called to the 2100 block of Southwest River Parkway after a witness discovered a dead body. The deceased, described as a white male in his mid 20s to early 30s, appeared to have signs of trauma. An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday, August 31, 2002, at 10:00 a.m.

Pending the results of the autopsy, detectives have initiated a homicide investigation. Investigators believe the crime occurred between 11:00 p.m. on August 29, 2002, and 8:30 a.m. on August 30, 2002. This investigation is continuing.

Update: The victim has been identified as 31-year-old John Pleasant Honaker. The Medical Examiner has determined the cause of death to be "Blunt Force Trauma to the Head". The death has been ruled a homicide.
