NORTH PRECINCT SPONSORS BIKE SAFETY FAIR

On Saturday, September 14, 2002, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., North Precinct will sponsor a Bike Safety Awareness Fair at 8501 North Chautauqua Boulevard for North Portland area children, ages 12 and younger. North Precinct Officers developed the program after seeing children riding bicycles and scooters without a helmet. During the fair, Portland Police Officers and volunteers will give away 400 helmets and teach children bike safety. Children will also be given an opportunity to win one of 19 bikes and other prizes by participating in the safety awareness program.

North Precinct Commander Bret Smith states the bike fair was organized to bring together children and families from various neighborhoods in North Portland and teach children bike safety.
