On Wednesday, September 25, 2002, members of the Financial, Business, and Law Enforcement Communities will meet at the Benson Hotel, located at 309 SW Broadway from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., to discuss the formation of a Regional Economic Crime Center Team. If developed, the team would include specially trained investigators and prosecutors from several jurisdictions throughout the region and their private sector counterparts or assets. Among the goals of the team are to share responsibility for investigating economic crimes in the Portland Metropolitan Area; provide training to reduce and prevent economic crime; and to identify needed legislation to combat economic crime.
Portland Police Chief Mark A. Kroeker and Investigations Branch Assistant Chief Andrew Kirkland will both be available at the Benson Hotel from 10:45 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. to discuss the concept with media representatives and provide additional information.
