On Saturday, October 5, 2002, at 8:30 in the morning, Portland Police Uniform Officers were dispatched to a home in the 7700 block of NE Prescott on a report of a family disturbance. Upon arrival officers found two men, later identified as 74-year-old William Henry Carlstrom Jr. and 50-year-old William Henry Carlstrom III, who are father and son, suffering from apparent injuries. Medical personnel arrived but the elder Carlstrom died at the scene. The younger Carlstrom was transported to a hospital where he was treatment and later released. A woman, who is the wife of the elder Carlstrom and mother of the younger Carlstrom, was inside the residence at the time but was not injured.
According to Portland Police Bureau Homicide Investigators, the two Carlstroms had a physical altercation that resulted in the death of the elder Carlstrom. The Medical Examiner's Office conducted an autopsy on Sunday, October 6, 2002. While the autopsy revealed the elder Carlstrom had signs of blunt force trauma, the Medical Examiner's Office is conducting additional test to determine the cause of death.
