20-YEAR-OLD DIES OF GUNSHOT WOUND

November 15, 2002 00:00

On November 15, 2002, at 8:15 a.m., Portland Police responded to a "welfare check" on a person seen lying in the passenger seat of a plum-colored 1999 Honda Accord LX parked in the lot of an apartment complex located at 508 Northeast Graham Street. Officers arrived and saw the body of a young African American male. Officers also saw what appeared to be a bullet hole in the windshield of the car. Homicide investigators were called to the scene and initiated an investigation.

The deceased has been identified as 20-year-old Deaustin Vondale Duckett of Vancouver, Washington. The Multnomah County Medical Examiner has determined that Duckett died of a gunshot wound or wounds. At the request of investigators, the exact number of gunshots to Duckett's body will not be released at this time. Investigators believe that Duckett had been in the vehicle, parked in the driveway, for at least 24 hours.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Steve Ober at (503) 823-4033 or Detective Kris Wagner at (503) 823-0899.

This investigation is continuing.
