Three Portland residents shot in late night assault

On Wednesday, November 20, 2002, at 9:55 p.m., three Portland residents were shot, one fatally, in front of 5706 North Mississippi Avenue. The deceased has been identified as 24-year-old Asia R. Bell. The other two victims, 26-year-old Tyrone L. James and 28-year-old Robert L. Milhouse were transported to a local hospital where James is in critical condition and Milhouse was treated and released. James and Bell were husband and wife and lived with their children at the home where the shooting occurred. At least one child was home when the victims were shot. The incident began when officers were responding to a "shots fired" call in the area of Bells residence. As officers arrived, they heard at least one additional shot fired. Officers established a perimeter and were unable to locate a suspect. An autopsy to determine the cause of Bells death is scheduled for this afternoon.
