An autopsy, conducted by the Medical Examiner's Office, determined the individual, whose identity is still unknown but who appears to be in his late 20's to early 30's, died of a single gunshot wound to the chest.
According to Investigators it is unknown, at this time, if the individual was shot at the location where his body was found or if he was shot somewhere else and his body brought to the location.

Update: The victim in the Sunday, December 8, 2002, homicide has been identified as 24-year-old David Mendoza-Navarro of Northeast Portland. East Precinct Uniform Officers discovered Mendoza-Navarros body at Northeast 136th Avenue and Shaver Street when officers responded to a report of a man lying in the middle of the roadway.
Detectives are also looking for the victim's pickup, described as a, blue-colored, 2000 Chevrolet S-10 bearing Oregon License ZEV607.
The investigation is continuing.
