PEDESTRIAN DIES AFTER ACCIDENT WITH TAXI

On Sunday, December 15, 2002, at 9:15 p.m., a Radio Cab driven by 52-year-old Thomas M. Sleeth struck 35-year-old Anita M. Nichols who was standing in the street near the intersection of Northeast Killingworth Street and Northeast 72nd Avenue. Sleeth stopped to render aid but could not find Nichols body at the scene of the accident. A short time later, police learned 32-year-old Megan Lutz struck a body near Northeast 42nd Avenue and Northeast Lombard.

Investigators were called to the scene and determined Nichols body must have been dragged from Northeast 72nd Avenue to Northeast 42nd Avenue almost immediately after Sleeth struck her. Both Sleeth and Lutz remained at the scene and assisted with the investigation and investigators found no evidence they were impaired when the accident occurred. Investigators are still attempting to locate the vehicle responsible for moving Nichols body to the scene of the second accident.
