Detectives seek public's help to locate suspect vehicle

February 26, 2003 00:00

On Saturday, January 18, 2003, at approximately 2:45 a.m., near a gas station at Southeast 84th Avenue and Southeast Foster Street, 44-year-old Joseph Claude Maestas and a companion had a verbal exchange with four individuals in a car. Believing the confrontation was going to become physical, Maetas' companion ran from the area. A short time later, the companion returned and found Maetas lying critically injured in a pool of blood. Within a few weeks, Maestas died of complications unrelated to the assault.

All four subjects in the vehicle are described as white males with Russian accents. The driver is approximately 20 to 25 years of age, 5'5" to 5'7" tall, with a skinny build, light brown hair and clean-shaven.

The subjects' vehicle is described as a medium-red 1990's Honda Civic DX 2-door coupe, with a dark gray or black interior. The vehicle is reportedly in good shape and has license plates that are white with blue numbers. The suspects car was captured on the surveillance video at the gas station.

Anyone with information in this investigation is asked to call Detective Paul Weatheroy (503) 823-0458. Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information, reported to Crime Stoppers, that leads to a resolution in this investigation. Call Crime Stoppers at (503) 823-HELP.
