Members of the Portland Police Bureau and the community are invited to join Chief Mark Kroeker on Friday, May 9, 2003, at the Portland Police Memorial in Waterfront Park, for a 3-mile memorial run/walk in honor of Portland Police Bureau officers killed in the line of duty. The run/walk will begin at 7 a.m.
Also on Friday, May 9, at 11:45 a.m., the annual Portland Police Bureau Memorial Service will be held at the Police Memorial in Waterfront Park. This year marks the first anniversary of the death of Officer Kirk Huffstetler whose name has been added to the Police Memorial. The Portland Police Bureau's Honor Guard, Highland Guard, and Mounted Patrol Unit will join Chief Kroeker, Portland Police Bureau members and community leaders as they pay tribute to Portland Police Officers who have sacrificed their lives on behalf of the citizens of Portland.
These events are held in conjunction with Police Memorial Week, a national event that honors fallen law enforcement officers throughout the country. This year's Police Memorial Week is from May 9 to May 16.
