20-year-old arrested after shooting near school

May 13, 2003 00:00

On Tuesday, May 13, 2003, Southeast Precinct Officers arrested 20-year-old Montez T. Taylor on one count of Attempted Assault in the First Degree and one count of Unlawful Use of a Weapon in connection with a shooting earlier today. The investigation began at 11:25 a.m., when officers responded to a "shots fired" call near Bridger Elementary School at Southeast 80th Avenue and Southeast Mill Street. Officers later learned that the shots were fired during a fight involving approximately 12 people which occurred off school property.

Bullets fired from a handgun hit at least one car and a classroom with 10 students. Approximately 150 additional students were on the playground at the time of the shooting. No Bridger School student or parent was involved in the altercation that led to the shooting and no one was injured.

Detectives are currently attempting to identify all potential victims and anticipate that Taylor will face additional charges at the conclusion of the investigation. A photograph of Taylor will not be released until the witnesses to the shooting have been reconnected.

This investigation is continuing.
