On Friday, May 16, 2003, at about 7:25 a.m., a male third grade student from Jason Lee Elementary School reported to police that was walking near the intersection of Northeast 90th Avenue and Northeast Eugene Street when an adult black male grabbed him around the chest and arms and held him in a "bear hug." The suspect held the victim for approximately five seconds until the victim kicked the suspect in the shin. The suspect then released the victim and fled on foot.
The suspect is described as a black male with a light complexion, in his early thirties, 5'6" to 5'9" tall with a thin build. The suspect had a gold hoop earring in his right ear and was wearing a red-colored short-sleeved shirt, black pants, and a black baseball cap.

The Portland Police Bureau reminds parents and their children to be aware of their surrounding and to report all suspicious information immediately to the police. Parents are encouraged to talk to their children about what to do if they are approached by a stranger.
