HOMICIDE VICTIM IDENTIFIED

June 10, 2003 00:00

On June 10, 2003, at 4:22 a.m., the body of 43-year-old Christine Ione Lawson was discovered by a security guard walking on Northwest 2nd Avenue just North of Burnside Street. Homicide Detectives were called to the scene and initiated an investigation.

An autopsy, conducted by the Medical Examiner's Office, determined that Lawson died of homicidal violence but for investigative reasons the cause of death is being withheld for 24 hours. Investigators have also learned that, prior to her death, Lawson was in possession of a black leather purse with a shoulder strap and a black wallet. These items were not found at the crime scene.

Lawson lived a transient lifestyle, frequented the Downtown Area of Portland, and had prior contact with the police.

Anyone with information in this investigation is asked to call Detective Paul Weatheroy at (503) 823-0458 or Detective Cheryl Kanzler at (503) 823-0865.

This investigation is continuing.
