Two bicyclists killed and one injured in hit and run crash

On Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at 12:21 a.m., Portland Police Officers arrested 49-year-old Lindsey L. Llaneza on two counts of Manslaughter in the First Degree, one count of Assault in the First Degree, one count of Felony Hit and Run, and one count of Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants after a Southeast Precinct officer saw Llaneza attempting to flee the scene of a fatal traffic crash. Investigators were called to the scene and learned that Llaneza was Westbound on Southeast Belmont Street, near Southeast 42nd Avenue, when he swerved to aviod one of four bicyclists traveling Westbound on Southeast Belmont Street, but hit all three of the remaining bicyclists, critically injuring 23-year-old Caroline J. Buchalter of Portland and killing 26-year-old Angela L. Leazenby of California and 27-year-old Orion C. Satushek of Portland.
Llaneza in currently lodged in the Multnomah County Detention Facility at Portland Adventist Hospital. Investigators have determined that Llaeza's blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit and that he was traveling faster than the posted speed.
