On Sunday, July 27, 2003, at 5:45 p.m., Portland Police discovered the body of 40-year-old Jay M. Krawsky while inside his apartment, located at 4600 Northeast 62nd Avenue, doing a welfare check. Officers went to the apartment after a witness provided information that Krawsky may have been assaulted earlier in the day. Krawsky's body had obvious sign of trauma and homicide detectives responded to the scene and initiated an investigation.
On July 28, 2003 the Medical Examiner performed an autopsy and determined that Krawsky died of head injuries. During the initial investigation, detectives identified 26-year-old Ronnie Lee McLean as a "person of interest" in the investigation. McLean has since been arrested, by an outside jurisdiction, for the murder of Krawsky. Detectives have asked that the outside jurisdiction not be identified at this time. This is the sixteenth homicide in Portland this year.
Anyone with information in this investigation is asked to call Detective Paul Weatheroy at (503) 823-0458 or Detective Brian Grose at (503) 823-0757.
This investigation is continuing.
