On Thursday, July 31, 2003, at 8:30 a.m., Portland Police began a search for 74-year-old William E. Turner. Turner, who has Alzheimer's, is believed to have walked away from the Golden Acres Care Home located at 12711 Southeast Holgate Boulevard at about 5:00 a.m. Thursday morning and has not been seen since. Police initiated the search immediately after receiving information that Turner was missing.

Turner, who answers to the name "Billy", is described as a black male, 5'10" tall, 150 pounds, with graying black hair. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a blue and white plaid shirt, and a wristband containing a turquoise stone. Turner normally is not able to speak but may respond to yes and no questions.

A command post, to coordinate the search, has been established at Southeast 128th Avenue and Southeast Holgate Boulevard. Officers are continuing to search the area using, ATV's bicycles, horses, and a search dog. PINS notifications have been sent to several locations in Southeast Portland. Anyone with information in this search is asked to call 9-1-1. Update:

Mr. Turner was found sleeping in a field near Southeast 142nd and Southeast Ellis. He was unharmed and has been returned home.
