Crime Stoppers for the Week of August 11, 2003

Portland Police Homicide Investigators, in cooperation with Crime Stoppers, are asking for your help in solving a murder.

On Monday, July 7, 2003, at approximately 3:20 in the morning, 23-year old Andrew Ray Mikes, who was mortally wounded by gunfire and would later die, arrived by private vehicle at a local hospital. The vehicle Mikes was in, a maroon 1999, 4-door Ford Escort driven by a 24-year old male friend of his who was unharmed, had several bullets holes. Investigators have yet to establish a motive for the shooting.

According to investigators, Andrew Mikes, who lived in deep Southeast Portland, was reportedly the passenger in the Ford Escort being driven by his friend when, near the intersection of Northeast 44th Avenue and Sandy Boulevard, an unknown subject, or subjects, opened fire on the vehicle and fatally wounded Mikes.

Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information, reported to Crime Stoppers, that leads to an arrest in this case, or any unsolved felony crime, and you can remain anonymous. Call Crime Stoppers at (503) 823-HELP (4357).
