Crime Stoppers for the Week of August 18, 2003

August 22, 2003 00:00

On Thursday, July 10, 2003, at approximately 10:20 in the evening, in the 6900 block of Northeast Killingsworth Street, 21-year-old Rudi Mariel Zapata-Flores was standing and talking with friends, when a vehicle containing several Hispanic Males stopped. Someone in the vehicle singled Rudi out and, in Spanish, called him over. Rudi got on his bike and rode to the vehicle, at which time he was shot and fell to the ground. The suspects looked at Rudi lying on the ground, laughed at him, and then drove away.

According to investigators, while the suspects are believed to have gang affiliation, Rudi Zapata-Flores, who lived in Northeast Portland and worked full time, had no criminal record or known gang ties.

The suspect vehicle is described as a "large" light brown American-made vehicle with spoke wheels and thin white wall tires.

Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information, reported to Crime Stoppers, that leads to an arrest in this case, or any unsolved felony crime, and you can remain anonymous. Call Crime Stoppers at (503) 823-HELP (4357).
